OCCU Credit Union Signers
Let the minutes reflect that the Board has decided to add Parker Ediger as a signer on the Zimfest Association account.
Fundraising (Maria)
Claire and Maria will continue discussion with Audrey on grant writing, and we will revisit the fundraising board role as the grant writing role progresses.
Brokerage Account (Maria)
Unfortunately, there is a new procedure at Wells Fargo that will not allow us to open a brokerage account with less than $250,000. Maria will ask a friend who works in this area with nonprofits. Maria and Parker don’t think the financial institution needs to be in Washington State to work with us.
Dumi Jr (Draze) Update (Parker)
Parker is communicating with Dumi Jr (Draze) about his album project dedicated to his parents. Zimfest may cross promote some of the highlights during his release timeline that could be of interest to the Zimfest audience.
Zimfest 2025 Recording Project (Claire, Parker, Charlie, Caden)
Getting closer! The team has finalized all licensing. Mixing from Steve Spitalny is going well, and the team has 2nd versions of most songs to give feedback on.
Caden is working with Jesse on a downloadable document with liner notes and credits; Parker has opened a Bandcamp account.
The Board discussed how much to charge for individual tracks and the whole album on Bandcamp.
Claire may blog to start hyping up the project.
Bookkeeping Hand-Off (Parker)
Parker is working with Gary Spalter to hand off bookkeeping duties. This includes updating account access (Washington Department of Revenue, PayPal accounts, Webconnex, and Oregon Community Credit Union), acquiring a Quickbooks license, and preparing our Federal 990 form (tax filing). Parker and Gary will visit Oregon Community Credit Union in-person to add Parker as a signer to Zimfest Association accounts.
Instruments Update (Claire)
Claire is in possession of several mbiras that belonged to a deceased student and have been donated to Zimfest. A couple will go into the sets used at Zimfest workshops and others will be sold; will donate proceeds of sales to ZA. Claire will send a list of the instruments available to the Board.
Claire is also in possession of a number of instruments and supplies that are used at, and/or belong to, Zimfest, including class sets of mbira (Magaya standard, G-tuned, and a growing set of mavembe/gandanga). Claire will inventory them. These can be negotiated to be used by folks throughout the year as long as they are brought to Zimfest (similar to the sets of marimbas that Zimfest owns). Parker will contact Claire about some of those instruments.
Zimfest 2029 Update (Maria, Claire, Tendai)
The Board is in ongoing communication with two interested potential hosts for Zimfest 2029.
