Greetings Zimfest Community!
After careful consideration by the ZA board, it is with great pleasure that we announce the selection of Dr. Emily Kane as the 2027 Festival Coordinator, effective Nov 1, 2026, through Oct 31, 2027.
Emily, a member of the marimba scene in Juneau, AK, has been playing marimba for over 20 years in her local community, and has been actively participating in Zimfest for the last several festivals, as well as engaging in studies on mbira with several teachers both remotely and in person.
An enthusiastic advocate of the arts, Dr. Kane has a long-standing history of involvement with music in many capacities including professional work in journalism, photography, administration, artist representation and program development. Additionally, Emily recently retired from a 33-year career running a naturopathic clinic in Juneau, and has traveled all over the world, engaging in cultural immersion and learning.
In other news, the Board and Festival Coordinator are now recruiting for the 2027 Organizing Committee, including a designated Site Coordinator. Please email board(at)zimfest.org or volunteers(at)zimfest.org to express interest! We look forward to hearing from you.
