Zimfest 2023: New Dates (August 3-6), Teacher/Performer Applications Open!

Dear Zimfest Community,

We previously announced a July date for Zimfest 2023, at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR. However, after more planning and consultation with our host, we have made the decision to change the dates to August 3rd-6th. We apologize to anyone who is negatively impacted by this change, but feel that it is the best decision for the festival, for the reasons listed below.

The primary reason for this change is that significantly more suitable classroom space is available later in the summer, especially for marimba, hosho, and drumming classes which require sound isolation. Furthermore, we will have exclusive use of our preferred dorm/dining center, because most other conferences on campus wrap up before these dates.

Finally, I am pleased to announce that teacher and performer applications are now open! The application deadline is February 28th.

Please visit teacher application information, and performer application information for details.

Thanks,
Alex Weeks
Zimfest Board President

The new dates Aug. 3-6th is a Thursday-Sunday. The previous dates were a Friday-Sunday. I am wondering if any instruction/classes or any concerts will happen on Thursday, August 3rd? Is the festival expanding by one day? Trying to rebook my flights, hotel, and car rental…but would like to know the details of what the schedule will be for these new dates and need to know what dates to take off of work…

      Karin,
Thanks for asking, and sorry you’ll have to rebook. We are planning to go back to a full Zimfest schedule with an opening ceremony on Thursday evening. We will also have Pre-fest activities on Thursday;from noon till 5 PM, groups may schedule private workshops in advance with available teachers. All this info will appear on the website.

Will the evening concerts be four nights, or just three as in the past, and which nights ? I don’t seem to find the answer to this on the website.

    • Claire Jones says:

Chuck, At this point we are planning on a Thursday evening Opening ceremony and full concerts Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, but it will depend on how many performance applications we receive.
