Festival Updates

Zimfest community,

We are disappointed to announce that Moyo Mutamba has had to cancel his participation in Zimfest 2023 due to personal reasons. We have been able to find excellent replacement teachers for all but one of his workshops, spelled out in the Workshop Changes page on the website. You may also wish to check for adjustments to the Friday and Sunday concert schedules to make up for the loss of Moyo and Friends mbira.

Festival Hints

As the festival is a mere three weeks away, start preparing now! Those of you who are driving and plan on parking on campus, be advised that permits are mandatory for on-campus parking from 7 AM – 5 PM, Monday to Friday, but free on the weekend. Advance online purchase of a visitor permit is recommended, and there is information on how to go about it on the Parking page. If you check the Zimfest map, it looks like the parking lot on Jefferson way between the dorm and the outdoor stage would be most convenient, but it is not! That is a small lot, loading and unloading for the stage and marketplace will take place from reserved parking sites there, and it is more expensive! We recommend you park in the (cheaper) Zone B parking lots south of McNary Hall and Dining Center.

See you soon,

Claire and the 2023 Organizing Committee

    HI Claire,
We have a handicapped permit. Does that mean free parking near McNary Hall? Or is an Oregon State placard necessary?
Is there someone else on the organizing committee that looks into issues like this?
    Thank you,
    NancyS

    • Claire Jones says:

Nancy, My suggestion is to look on the OSU website for information about handicapped parking, no one on the organizing committee looks into these issues (sorry). Here’s a place to start: OSU Parking FAQ.

  2. MyLinda says:

The parking page for OSU is not working. After choosing which type of parking (B) I am unable to add dates and proceed. Do you need to create an account to get a parking pass?

    • Claire Jones says:

      MyLinda,
After asking our resident experts who did not know the answer, I tried it myself. You do not need to create an account to get a visitor’s parking permit, but it will not accept any starting date after August 1. To get an online permit that starts August 2 or later, you will have to wait until August. (I was able to get a permit for Aug 1-7, not too expensive, and now it’s done!) Sorry, Claire

      • Larry Israel says:

Actually, parking permits are now (today, Tuesday) available for August 2nd. The last possible permit starting date, apparently, is always 15 days in the future. So, all Zimfest-goers needing a permit should be able to buy them this Thursday or beyond.
