Every Zimfest participant staying in the WOU Residence Halls must purchase a meal plan from WOU dining services. Purchase your meals in advance through Zimfest online registration.
Zimfest Meal Plans
Those staying one or more nights must choose between the following two plans:
- All-Meal Plan ($94.50 for adults; $71.50 for children 11 and younger) consists of 11 meals: Thursday dinner through Monday breakfast. Individuals choosing this plan will receive a programmed meal card from WOU Dining personnel
- Two meals for each night (any combination of breakfast, lunch and/or dinner). For each night you will be staying in the dorms (starting Thursday), the Zimfest registration system will require you to select at least two meals in any combination. The total amount you owe will be automatically added up (see individual prices below) and you will be given meal tickets at the Zimfest registration desk . The tickets will be specifically marked for each meal and will be non-transferable.
Please note: you do not have to be staying in the dorms to purchase meals through Zimfest registration. We strongly encourage all festival participants to purchase meal plans ahead of time (for example, if you are camping or commuting) so that Zimfest gets an accurate count of meals needed. All Zimfest participants may purchase additional meals beyond those pre-purchased on a cash basis at Valsetz Dining Hall. Those arriving before the meal plan starts on Thursday evening can also purchase meals on a cash basis.

Valsetz Dining Hall
Food service for Zimfest participants and other conference groups is in Valsetz Dining Hall, located within the residential complex on the north end of campus. The Food Court is on the second floor of Valsetz; you may access it via upper level pedestrian walkways from the dorms, or stairs or elevator from ground level.
WOU runs their own catering service, and provides many vegetarian and gluten-free options. If you cannot find vegan or gluten-free options, please ask a cafeteria worker. Meals will be buffet style, on an all-you care-to-eat basis (re-entering for seconds is not allowed). Information about the food offerings at WOU can be found here. Valsetz menus are published on the WOU website a week in advance.
To-go bottled drinks and packaged snacks in the retail section of Valsetz will be available during lunchtime and dinnertime on a cash basis. They are not included in the Zimfest all-you-can-eat buffet meals.
Please be advised that food may not be taken out of the Valsetz Dining Center.
All Zimfest participants who have purchased the all-meal plan will be issued numbered meal cards covering their contracted food service. Pick up your meal cards when you check in for housing, either at the Ackerman Help Desk during working hours or at the Residential Service Center after hours. See Important Info About Housing Check-in and Check-out. Meal cards are accepted only in Valsetz (they are not valid in Werner University Center restaurants).
Lost and Unreturned Meal Cards
If you lose your card at the festival, let a cashier know. The cashier will check the roster of meal purchasers, note that card is lost and manually enter the card number for the sale. WOU does not issue replacement cards.
You must return your meal card to WOU Housing and Dining Services in the Residential Service Center, or to the box placed in the Zimfest registration area for them. Zimfest will be charged $5 by WOU for any missing cards and will pass that charge on to the participant including a service fee.
WOU cannot refund money for lost meal tickets – make sure you keep them safe!
Other On-Campus Dining Options
During the week, a café and several other retail dining establishments operate on the second floor in the Werner University Center. Coffee, espresso drinks, Italian sodas, juices and a variety of pastries will be available for purchase at the coffee shop Caffé Allegro Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Caffé Allegro hours will be extended to 5 p.m. on Thursday August 8 and Friday Aug 9. The restaurants in the WUC are not open during the weekends.
