Holmes Dining Room
Food service for Zimfest participants and other conference groups is in the Holmes Dining Room in the southwest corner of the Student Union and Recreation Center (SURC). CWU runs their own dining and catering service, and offers fresh, home-cooked fare in an All-You-Care-To-Enjoy format. A fixed price gets you access to a broad selection featuring comforting staples and exciting multicultural options from a menu that rotates daily.
Zimfest Meal Plans
The following meal plans may be pre-purchased through Zimfest registration whether you are staying in the dorms, camping or commuting. We strongly encourage all festival participants to purchase meal plans in advance (before the July 17th deadline) so that Zimfest and CWU get an accurate count of meals needed. CWU dining services will purchase and prepare food based on the number of pre-paid meal plans, and we don’t want them to run out! Participants and visitors may also purchase individual meals onsite using the cashless option shown below. Prices quoted below include WA State tax.

Dietary Restrictions – Purple Paw Program
CWU Dining Services launched the Purple Paw program two years ago by creating an allergy-friendly approach to food preparation. Diners in the Holmes Dining Room can ask for a Dining Services staff person who wears a purple paw pin, signifying that they are specially trained to prepare their food in a safe manner. Participants registering for Zimfest meal plans may indicate whether they have any severe dietary restrictions that they want Dining Services to know about, and their information will be sent to Dining Services who will contact them before the festival. Please introduce yourselves to the workers in the cafeteria so that they can get to know those with dietary restrictions. They aim to serve!
Meal Passes
Zimfest participants who have purchased any of the meal plans will be issued a lanyard with a “Meal Pass,” a large laminated card with pre-purchased meals programmed in. Pick up your meal passes at the CWU Conferences Services check-in desk at the CWU Information Center, on the first floor of the SURC. This service counter is at the east end of the building, directly across from Cat Trax East espresso and smoothie bar.
Lost and Unreturned Meal Passes
If you lose your pass at the festival, contact CWU Conference Services at 509-963-1141 or 509-899-0583 to receive a new one.
Dining Questions
If you have any questions about the meal plans and rules, please email – please do not call or e-mail CWU personnel.
CWU Campus is Cashless
CWU is a cashless campus. Dining Services do not accept cash at their locations in the SURC, including the Holmes Dining Room, but do accept Visa and Mastercard credit or debit cards.
In addition, they have provided a Cash-To-Card machine that can be found in the main corridor, just outside the Central Marketplace. For a small fee, the Cash-To-Card machine provides a VISA gift card that can be used anywhere, not necessarily tied to CWU in any way. Any remaining funds can be spent off-campus.
Other On-Campus Food Options
Zimfest participants and visitors without meal cards can find a variety of food in the Central Marketplace (CMP), located in the SURC next to the Holmes Dining Room.
